The Phoenix Pro 2026 Season Pass is now available for FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) teams

Phoenix Pro is an advanced robotics and automation software license that enables  high-performance control features for both FRC teams and broader robotics applications. Built on the proven Phoenix 6 framework, Phoenix Pro introduces innovative features such as field-oriented control (FOC), advanced data measurement capabilities, and optimized performance when paired with licensed CTR Electronics hardware.

Supported Phoenix 6 Devices

With Phoenix Pro, FRC teams gain access to powerful software tools that optimize drivetrain precision, sensor feedback, and control loop performance — delivering the advanced functionality needed to compete at the highest level.

The FRC-exclusive Season Pass licensing model simplifies deployment—enabling teams to activate up to 100 devices under their team number. Licenses are easy to manage through Phoenix Tuner X, ensuring quick setup across roboRIO, CANivore, and simulation environments.

Key Features

  • Built on the Phoenix 6 framework, delivering next-generation enhancements and expanded capabilities for robotics and FRC applications.
  • Unlocks advanced Phoenix Pro features, including FOC and data tools
  • Season Pass licensing available exclusively for FRC teams
  • Supports up to 100 licensed devices per team number (expandable by request)
  • Works seamlessly with all Phoenix 6 supported platforms

Benefits for Robotics, FRC & Mobile Automation

  • Competition-Grade Control: Advanced commutation algorithms deliver precise steering, driving, and mechanism performance for FRC robots.
  • Future-Ready Software: Built on Phoenix 6 for long-term compatibility and ongoing feature expansion.
  • Flexible Licensing: Season Pass ties licenses to your FRC team number, simplifying device activation and reducing cost.
  • Broad Hardware Support: Works with CTR Electronics motor controllers, encoders, and sensors used widely in competitive robotics.
  • Easy Integration: Configure, activate, and manage licenses quickly with Phoenix Tuner X.
  • Phoenix Pro Simulation Benefits
    • Experiment Without a License – Simulated devices are already Pro-licensed, so you can try out all the Phoenix Pro features in simulation without purchasing a license.
    • High-Fidelity Simulation – Our devices are built with detailed simulation models, so when you test in simulation, the behavior closely matches how the real hardware will respond (assuming the physics are set up correctly). This gives you confidence that your code will transfer smoothly to the robot.
    • Easy WPILib Integration – Phoenix Pro includes ready-to-use examples that work with WPILib’s FRC simulation tools, making it simple to integrate into your existing workflow.

License Types

Phoenix Pro provides flexible licensing options—Single Device, CANivore Bus, and Season Pass—so users can choose the plan that best matches their project or application needs.

Single Device:

A single device license can be activated and installed individually per device. Each purchase licenses exactly one compatible CAN bus device to use Phoenix Pro features. This may be preferred for systems with a small number of devices that need to utilize Pro features, or when used in a benchtop application.

This license enables Pro features when used on the roboRIO CAN bus,CTRE CANivore CAN bus, or generic socketCAN CAN bus for non-FRC application.

After purchase you will receive an email notification when your licenses are ready to use.

Once your licenses are ready, use Phoenix Tuner X to activate and install a license onto each of your devices.

CANivore Bus:

This license is activated and installed onto the CANivore, and enables Phoenix Pro features for every CAN-connected device. This means that every compatible device that is attached to a licensed CANivore via CAN bus will be able to use Phoenix Pro features. This license type is advantageous if there are a large number of devices and eliminates the need to license additional devices in the event of a replacement.

Each purchase provides two CANivore licenses.

Note that the CANivore itself does not currently have features that require Pro, and the sole purpose of the CANivore license is to allow attached CAN devices to use Pro features. If all attached devices are licensed via other means (individual licenses or a season pass) then a CANivore license is not needed.

After purchasing you will receive an email notification when your licenses are ready to use.

Once your licenses are ready, use Phoenix Tuner X to activate the CANivore and install its license. The supported CAN devices that are connected to the CANivore's CAN bus will be Phoenix Pro enabled so long as they stay connected to the CANivore.

CANivore Licensing Notes

    • The Season Pass does not license CANivores for bus licensing.
    • The Season Pass can, however, license individual devices connected to a CANivore.
    • Note: CANivore itself does not require a Pro license. Bus licensing is simply an alternative method of licensing multiple devices.

Season Pass (FRC Teams Only)

The Phoenix Pro Season Pass provides FRC teams with a simple way to license multiple devices.

  • Each Season Pass is tied to a team number and generates licenses equivalent to Single Device licenses.
  • Licenses activate Pro features when:
    • Used on a roboRIO configured with the assigned team number
    • Connected through either the native CAN bus or a CANivore bus
    • Used for Hardware Attached Simulation (CANivore connected to PC with a WPILib robot project)
    • Deployed on a roboRIO configured with reserved “Off-Season Demo” team numbers (9970–9999)

Season Pass Activation

After purchase, teams will receive an email notification when the Season Pass is ready. Using Phoenix Tuner X, teams must:

    1. Assign their team number to the Season Pass
    2. Activate and install a license on each supported device
    3. Each Season Pass initially supports licensing for up to 100 devices.

Licensing Overview

All supported Phoenix 6 devices can freely use the Phoenix 6 API. To unlock additional Phoenix Pro advanced features, devices must be hardware licensed. Full licensing details are available in the Phoenix Pro Documentation.

Licenses activate Pro features when the device firmware and API versions match the license year.

  • Example: A 2023 license enables Pro features with 23.X firmware and 23.X Phoenix 6 API.
  • A 2024 license enables Pro features with 24.X firmware and 24.X API.

Simulation: Phoenix 6 Simulation with Pro features does not require licensing.
